We have concluded there is a Fletcher Brotherhood of Left Sided Broken Bones in our family. In 2021, Matt fell and broke his left wrist while hiking at Philmont. Two months later, Ben fell and broke his left collarbone. Fast forward to 2023. While visiting Lydia in San Francisco, Ben wiped out on a bike ride through the city and injured his left wrist. The initial evaluation of the X-ray was there was an abnormality that could be a fracture. In the meantime, Matt had gone on a hike at the same time we were biking. I told him to be careful, thinking what if he fell and broke his collarbone!
We followed up with a hand and arm specialist when we got home two days later. The orthopedist could not see an obvious fracture on the X-ray but wouldn’t rule out the possibility due to the swelling and pain. So now we’re waiting and keeping our fingers crossed for no more broken bones in 2023.
The next township column will be published April 19; copy deadline is April 13.
