North Catasauqua Police Department reminds residents to keep your packages safe and offers the following tips to prevent having delivered packages stolen.
Select the option to require someone sign for your package and to show identification.
Consider using the delivery address of someone who will be home on the estimated delivery date.
Place insurance on the package if the item is costly.
Leave instructions where you would like your package to be delivered at your home.
Also, the police department also reminds residents to park smart.
Always lock your car doors when away from your car.
Try not to leave valuables in your car. If you must leave valuables in your car, hide them or keep them out of sight.
Additionally, with a rise in check-cashing scams, the police department would like to alert residents to a common check-cashing scam.
A suspect approaches a victim on the street asking for help to cash a check. The suspect and victim then go to a nearby bank, where the victim deposits the check into an ATM, withdraws the cash and then gives the cash to the suspect.
The victim is later notified by the bank that the check was fraudulent, and the victim’s account is now negative for the amount of the fraudulent check.
To protect yourself from check-cashing scams, refuse cashing a check for someone you do not know. If someone approaches you asking to cash a check, call 911 and give the operator the description of the person and their location.
If you have any questions or concerns with matters such as this, police encourages residents to contact the department.
