Shirley M.A. Knappenberger, 88, currently residing at Sacred Heart Senior Living, Northampton, formerly of Coplay, died March 4, 2023, in Lehigh Valley Hospital, Muhlenberg, Bethlehem.

She was the wife of the late Warren W. Knappenberger.

Born Nov. 21, 1934, in North Whitehall Township, she was the daughter of the late Sherman L. and Amy E. (Oswald) Rumfield.

She was a food service worker in the cafeteria of the former Troxell Jr. High School in the Parkland School District for 27 years before retiring in 1996.

She was a member of Union United Church of Christ, Neffs.

Her survivors include sons Glenn W. Knappenberger (Pamela) of Washington Township, Frank A. Knappenberger (Bonnie Jo) of Lehigh Township, and Gene Knappenberger (Deborah) of Macungie; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by a son, the Rev. James L. Knappenberger and his wife, Pamela; and siblings Betty I. Peters and Stanley R. Rumfield Sr.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. March 9 in Heintzelman Funeral Home Inc., 4906 Route 309, Schnecksville, with the Rev. Kris P. Snyder officiating. Family and friends may pay their respects 9:30-10:30 a.m. Thursday in the funeral home.

Interment will follow the service at Union Church Cemetery, Neffs.
