Dr. Roy to present state of the schools

On Thursday, March 16, Superintendent Dr. Joseph Roy will present State of the Schools, showcasing how BASD teachers are “Building Bethlehem” at the Zoellner Arts Center from 7:15 a.m. to 9 a.m.

Persons of the week

Student of week is Sophia Gonzalez, a fifth grader at Donegan ES. Sophia works with the Life Skills students and “makes them feel comfortable and included.”

Educator of week is Marvine ES guidance counselor Alexis Szaro, a BASD alumna who also completed her school counselor internship at Freemansburg ES and Freedom HS.

Secondary schools

Freedom HS’s Jazz Festival began March 2 with a choir coffee house. Festivities continue through April.

Bethlehem Area Vocational-Teachnical School held a coat drive. The National Technical Honor Society collected 320 coats.

Bethlehem Area elementary schools celebrated Read Across America Day with visiting guest readers and author visits. William Penn ES held an evening family celebration with a focus on poet Maya Angelou.
