Friedman’s Service Station closes after 87 years

Saturday, Feb. 25, marked the end of an era: Bruce and Karen Friedman closed their Fountain Hill family business for the last time. Bruce has worked here since he was 12 years old and attributes his strong work ethic to his dad, Bob Friedman. “You start work at 6 a.m. and end no earlier than 6 p.m. – except Saturdays when you finish at 1 p.m. Sunday was your day off.” Bruce has maintained that work ethic his whole life.

Friedman’s Service Station has been an anchor in the community for 87 years, all the while being family-owned and operated.

Family, friends and community members stopped by Friday and Saturday to say goodbye and good luck, sharing stories and tears as they reminisced of times spent at the garage.
