With the spotlight on Lehigh Valley high school musicals for the 21st annual Freddy Awards, the Lehigh Valley Press Focus section continues its preview series.
“Mary Poppins” glides onto the Saucon Valley stage, 7 p.m. March 9, 10, 11; 2 p.m. March 12, auditorium, Saucon Valley High School, 2100 Polk Valley Road, Hellertown.
The show, with music and lyrics by Clark Gesner, is based on P.L. Travers’ children’s books and the 1964 Walt Disney movie of the same title. Nanny Mary Poppins drops into the chaotic Banks’ household in 1910 London.
Director Felicia Stone is assisted by Assistant Director Lindsay Murray, Choreographer Gregory Marchetti, Vocal Director Chad Miller and Band Director Mark Pages. Set design and construction are by Mike Sanders.
The 2006 Broadway production was nominated for seven Tony Awards, receiving one Tony.
Production numbers include “Jolly Holiday,” “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious,” “Step in Time,” “A Spoonful of Sugar” and “Let’s Go Fly a Kite.”
