Eyer Middle School presents “Singin’ in the Rain JR.”

If you have enjoyed watching the 1952 musical, “Singin’ in the Rain” with Gene Kelly, Donald O’Connor and Debbie Reynolds, you will enjoy Eyer Middle School’s production of “Singing in the Rain JR.” opening March 2.

The production will be performed at the school, 5616 Buckeye Road, Macungie, 7 p.m. March 2 and 3 and 2 and 7 p.m. March 4.

The screenplay is by Betty Comden and Adolph Green; songs by Nacio Herb Brown and Arthur Freed.

“Singin’ in the Rain JR.” is presented through special arrangement with Music Theatre International, New York, N.Y.

Directors Molly Magro and Jennifer Najarian said the idea to perform “Singin’ in the Rain JR.” began shortly after the close of last year’s musical.

Najarian began approaching “seventh grade boys in the hallways and asking if they had ever wanted to learn to tap dance,” Magro said. “We got a lot of heavy sighs and responses along the lines of, ‘no, but I have a feeling I’m about to anyway ...?’ which was good enough for us. One Tap Club later, here we are, doing a classic dance show with a bunch of middle schoolers, many of whom put on tap shoes for the first time this fall. We couldn’t be more proud of them.”

Rounding out the production staff are musical director: Rita Cortez; technical director: Doug Hunsicker; costume director: Amy Slivka; set designers: Anne Kukitz and David Willett; ticket sales: Kristin Ervin and producer: Jacqueline Swauger. Najarian was also the choreographer for the production and Magro created the program.

Chorus Girls include Keira Arnold, Hannah Barbehenn, Allison Fontaine, Brynn Hutnik, Addison Lausch, Avery Lee, Arianna Lutz, Chloe Mosel, Mia Titone and Ainsley Wright.
