EHS names student of the week

Q. In what grade are you currently enrolled?

A. I am currently in 12th grade at Emmaus High School.

Q. Please provide the first names of your family members: parents, siblings and pets.

A. My dad Chris, my mom Suzi, my brother Connor, my sister Kathryn and my dog Tobin.

Q. What is your favorite subject? Why?

A. My favorite subject is history. I’m really enjoying my government course this year. I think the past is like a bunch of stories about different events and people. It’s fun to learn about all of the different aspects of what each story holds.

Q. Have you received any special awards or recognition?

A. I’ve received All-Eastern Pennsylvania Conference honors for football in my junior and senior years. I also received All-EPC, All-State and All-American honors for swimming throughout my years on the team. I’ve been on Principal’s Honor Roll every year.

Q. Are you involved in any extracurricular activities? How has being involved in these organizations impacted your high school experience?

A. I was a captain on the EHS football team, and played all four years. I also am on the swim team, again for all four years. I’m planning on playing lacrosse too this year for the first time. Other activities include National Honor Society, Boy Scouts, Hornet Ambassadors and Lunch Buddies. These extracurriculars have kept me very busy throughout my four years so I’d say my high school experience was fulfilling because I was always able to do what I loved. My sports were also a way to stay connected during COVID-19 when we couldn’t always be in person for school.

Q. What do you consider your biggest challenge to date?

A. Balancing the sports I played and the other activities with my academics and the rest of my life was the biggest challenge I had while in school. You can almost always take on more than you originally think and after fighting through some procrastination, getting to a place where your work is done and you have some time for yourself, makes the challenge worth it.

Q. What is your next goal after high school?

A. My goals for after high school include attending a 4-year university (I’m still deciding where) and majoring in business.

Q. Whom do you admire? Why?

A. I think I admire my dad the most. He has always taught me that it doesn’t matter what happens in the short run – you could get knocked down, taken off the path you want to be on or anything bad could happen. What matters is how you respond and how your attitude and drive to achieve what you want shouldn’t change.

Q. For what would you like to be remembered?

A. I would most like to be remembered for the relationships I made with other kids. Through football and swimming, the connections I made with my teammates and the things we accomplished as a team are the things I hope are remembered and hopefully, at some point, surpassed.

Q. Do you have any advice for your peers?

A. Keep yourself busy throughout high school. In the moment it may seem stressful or too challenging but in the long run the memories, experiences you have, lessons you learn and friends you meet make it worth it. Make your four years mean something and you’ll start to care more about Emmaus and your time there.
