Churches offering offering Lenten soup suppers

Union Lutheran Church, Schnecksville, will have a soup supper 5:30 p.m. each Wednesday in Lent - March 8, 15, 22 and 29.

A freewill offering may be given.

Worship will be 7 p.m. on those days in the sanctuary or parking lot.

The services will follow the Holden Evening Prayer format which has been well-received at Union Lutheran for many years.

The church invites children in first grade or older to participate in first communion classes on March 12 and 26.

St. John’s United Church of Christ, 1415 Rising Sun Road, Laurys Station, welcomes people to Lenten luncheons noon in fellowship hall on Wednesdays March 8, 15, 22 and 29.

The group will take a look at the book, “The Art of Lent: A Painting a Day from Ash Wednesday to Easter” by Sister Wendy Beckett.

The congregation and visitors are invited to join in reflecting on the paintings.

Here’s an opportunity for a day time event during the Lenten season.

St. John’s Pastor James Gottwald commented on the scriptural directive to be the light of the world.

“The light of God is not something that evil can extinguish,” Gottwald said.

Union United Church of Christ, Neffs, will host a Dr. Seuss celebration 9:15 a.m. March 5.

All are invited to come dressed as their favorite Dr. Seuss character.

The program will include crafts, games, and fun for children ages 3 to seventh grade, their parents and other family members, too.

The Auxiliary of Northern Valley EMS, NOVA, is taking orders for its shoofly pie fundraiser.
