Liberty senior Keller Pooley was the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference’s bronze medalist at the EPC Diving Championships on Feb. 11 at Parkland High School.
“My inward one-and-a-half felt best. I think that was one of the best ones I’ve ever done,” Pooley said. “I don’t know why that happened to be the one in the meet, but it was. It wasn’t my best-scored dive, but, in my opinion, it was my best dive.”
Pooley’s total score in the six-dive meet was 217.60.
Bethlehem Catholic’s Anna Petke won EPC gold with 254.10 points, Easton’s Madison Cunard was the EPC silver medalist with 218.75 points, and fourth place was awarded to Northampton’s Isabella Kish with a score of 189.90. Freedom’s Hayden Taylor came in fifth with 177.45 points.
“Keller was doing pretty well until her back one-and-a-half, which we’ve been having some issues with here and there. We’ve been working a lot with her on hanging on a little longer and kicking,” said Liberty diving coach Emily Kocis. “During the meet itself, I let her come to me before she does the dive, and then after she does the dive, try to quickly move her on.”
Pooley’s dives were a front one-and-a-half, front double, inward one-and-a-half, back one-and-a-half, reverse dive, and back one-and-a-half twist.
“I was proud of all of my dives except for the back one-and-a-half,” Pooley said. “I did really good compared to where I was early in the season besides on that dive, so I was proud I could get a 217 with getting threes on a dive, where in the beginning of the season, I would have an amazing meet and get 214.”
The District XI Diving Championships are scheduled for Feb. 25 at Emmaus High School where Pooley will compete in Class 3A.
“For districts, we’re going to focus a lot on her entries and fix some of her takeoffs when she’s going forward off the board, just to make sure we’re maintaining that forward motion and getting as high in the air as possible, so that she can open up those dives and not be finishing the dive as she hits the water,” Kocis said.
