East Penn Restaurant Week begins Feb. 26 through March 4

The East Penn Restaurant Week will be held Feb. 26 through March 4 throughout the East Penn area. Participating restaurants include Cactus Blue, East Penn Diner, Yergey Brewing, Notch and Gio’s Italiano Delite. Sponsors include The Emmaus Main Street Partners East Penn Chamber of Commerce, a partner of the Greater Lehigh Valley Chamber of Commerce and New Tripoli Bank. It time to enjoy community theater at its finest in the East Penn School District.

Eyer Middle School, 5616 Buckeye Road, Macungie, will present “Singing in the Rain, Jr.” 7 p.m. March 2, 3, 4 and 2 p.m. March 4. Tickets are available at https://www.eastpennsd.org/eyer/article/singin-in-the-rain-jr-tickets/. Please note Golden tickets are not accepted at the middle school level.

Willow Lane Elementary School, 6135 Sauerkraut Lane, Macungie, will present “Meddallion Island” March 9 and 10.

Lower Macungie Middle School, 6299 Lower Macungie Road, Macungie, will present “Annie” 7 p.m. March 23-25. Call the school at 610-395-8593 for more information.

Lastly, Emmaus High School, 500 Macungie Ave., Emmaus, will present “Fiddler on the Roof” 7 p.m. March 29, 30, 31, April 1 and 2 p.m. April 1 and 2. A complimentary performance for senior Gold Card members will be held 6 p.m. March 28. Gold Card members must present East Penn School District Gold Cards at the door on the evening of the performance. The Gold Card will serve as your ticket. Gold Cards will not be accepted at other performances.

Mark your calendars – the Emmaus Public Library will host its third annual “Tee Time at the Library,” a mini golf fundraiser featuring an 18-hole mini golf course inside the library at 11 E. Main St., Emmaus.

This event will include an adult-only (21 and older) evening 6 to 9 p.m. March 24, followed by a family friendly event 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. March 25.

The event features a professionally designed indoor mini golf course inside the library.

This year’s theme is “The Places You Will Go” with hole decorations by area families and students from Seven Generations Charter School and Lower Macungie Middle School.

Putters, balls and score cards will be provided. Complimentary food and alcoholic beverages will be provided March 24. Food and drink will be available for purchase March 25.

Also at the library, children of all ages are encouraged to read to the Lehigh Valley Therapy Dogs 6:30-7:45 p.m. Feb. 23 in the Margaret Knoll Gardner Lecture Room. Books & Barks will also be held March 23 and April 27.

The Emmaus Historical Society and Museum, 218 Main St., is open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays. Stop by for a visit and learn more about this history-filled community.

The historical society’s next monthly membership meeting and program is scheduled 7 p.m. March 16 at St. John’s Lutheran Church Parish Hall, 501 Chestnut St. The program, “The Emmaus Train Wreck of 1925 and the Plane Crash of 1935” will be presented by Bill Barto and features Barbara (Hieter) Edelman. Programs are free and members and nonmembers are welcome to attend.

Emmaus Historical Society will be participating in the SnowBlast Winter Arts Festival, March 4. Stop by to see the beautiful winter displays and see local artist Bob Boehmer in action.

Lucky Bucks Bingo is back. This event, held in conjunction with the Emmaus Main Street Partners, will be held March 12 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 501 Chestnut St. Emmaus. Doors open 1 p.m. with bingo 2-5 p.m. The event also includes a 50/50 and basket raffle. Refreshments will be available. Tickets can be purchased at David’s Electric, Emmaus Jewel Shop, Laura’s Custom Framing and Fine Art and the Emmaus Historical Society.

The historical society bus trips have filled up quickly. There are only a few seats left for April 11, Hunterdon Hills, Perryville, N.J., “Million Dollar Quartet.” The June 14 show at the Candlelight Theater has been canceled but a new show has been scheduled. Join the fun June 14 at The Waterfront at Silver Birches for “Blues, Brew, & BBQ.” The day will be packed with great food and entertainment. The deadline for reserving tickets is April 28. The historical society will be launching this year’s sale of Dan Schantz Monthly Maddness Cards starting March 4. Stop in the museum Saturdays to purchase your cards or call the museum to place an order at 610-966-6591. Tickets will also be available at the monthly programs and all society events.

The historical society’s 2023 membership drive is in full swing. It is time to renew, join or give a gift of membership by stopping by the museum Saturdays. Call or visit their website at www.emmaushistoricalsociety.org to complete an online form and for payment.

The book, “The Personal Librarian” by Marie Benedict has inspired a bus trip, sponsored by Friends of the Emmaus Public Library, to the J.P. Morgan Library in New York. The trip, May 11, includes visiting the Morgan Library, Museum, and Gardens, a guided tour and time on your own.
