’Canes aim to fight at districts

Liberty always shows up at their home gym and the Hurricanes hope they can put on a show for their faithful this weekend at the District 11 3A tournament at Memorial Gymnasium.

Head coach Brandon Hall will have a full lineup at his disposal, where he hopes to push close to half his roster to next week’s regional tournament.

“Our goal is to push five to six kids to next weekend,” Hall said.

Ryan Santiago (145) is the lone returning medalist from last year for the Hurricanes, where he finished fourth. Santiago figures to be one of the Liberty favorites to medal this weekend, along with the likes of Kam Abboud (133), Jasiah Pagan (107), Seth Kolb (HWT), Adriaan DeLeon (139) and Jack Evans (127).

“As a whole, I want them to wrestle hard and with confidence and fight for the next point,” said Hall of the goals for this weekend. “Individually, goals vary due to experience levels, but you always want to push as many kids as possible to the next weekend. Some are just fighting to make to the second day of such a high quality district tournament.”
