Whitehall Manor, 1177 Sixth St., Whitehall, held a Valentine’s Day party Feb. 14 for staff and residents that was uptempo and fun with food and refreshments. During the event, staff crowned a 2023 Valentine’s Day king and queen.
Nya Cruz, Whitehall Manor’s activities director, had a large role in coordinating the event, along with the rest of the Whitehall Manor team.
Music, dancing, balloons, decorations and a kissing booth were featured during the two-hour event.
Manor resident Pat Keyes had a delightful time dancing with staff and others and enjoyed a fruit beverage as she floated around the room socializing with other residents. The afternoon took a fun turn when Keyes was announced queen of the event.
Peter Janakis was happy to be named the 2023 Valentine’s Day king.
“You are a beautiful queen,” Janakis said to Keyes as they posed for pictures and applause.
Cruz thanked everyone who attended the party. There was an obvious spirit of love throughout the event.
Valentine’s Day appears to lack a loving beginning. It may have been started by ancient Romans. Emperor Claudius II executed two men - both named Valentine - Feb. 14 of different years in the third century. Their martyrdom was honored by the Roman Catholic Church with the celebration of St. Valentine’s Day.
