Council OKs borough activities
During the Feb. 14 Coplay Borough Council meeting, council approved May 6 as the date for the dedication of the newly improved Coplay Tot Lot, located next to Coplay Public Library, 49 S. Fifth St.
The borough parks and recreation committee will be working with the library to orchestrate a combined event, which will include activities for the children in attendance. The rain date is May 13.
The library will also be holding a food truck fundraiser May 9 in the pool parking lot on Keefer Street. Borough council granted approval to the library committee to have use of the pool bathrooms, water and the parking lot, so Vince’s Cheesesteak Truck can offer its menu items from noon to 8 p.m.
The borough is planning to hold two craft fairs and asked council to approve waiving the pavilion rental fee for each event. The first fair will be held April 1, and the second fair will be held Oct. 7 and 8. Council approved this request.
The parks and recreation committee asked for approval to hold a lottery calendar fundraiser for the month of June. This calendar would follow the Pennsylvania Daily Number. Council granted approval to hold this sale.
Also at the meeting, approval was granted to allow the borough to advertise for a pool manager, lifeguards and gatekeepers in preparation for the summer season.
Coplay Fire Department was given approval to use Saylor Field for its Easter egg hunt, which is set for noon April 1.
The lighting package for Sammy Balliet Stadium, which includes a newly agreed upon design and footers, was also given approval by council, pending the approval by the engineers.
In other news, the borough office has new 25-gallon recycling bins with lids available for purchase by residents. The cost for a new bin is $10 through the end of February. As of March 1, the cost for a new bin will increase to $15. Residents can stop by the borough office 8 a.m.-3:30 p.m. to purchase a bin.
The next borough council meeting - a workshop - will be held 7 p.m. March 7.
