Allen supervisors discuss Savage Road subdivision

The Allen Township Board of Supervisors met Feb. 14 to discuss a Savage Road subdivision.

Solicitor Lincoln Treadwell explained the history of the property. The township started updating its comprehensive plan in late 2017. As part of that plan, it was recommended to change 700 Savage Road to an R2 (residential district) from the industrial district it had been for years.

A zoning ordinance amendment was issued, went to the township and Lehigh Valley planning commissions and was scheduled to be voted on in December 2018. Before the amendment was enacted, the property owner submitted a plan for warehouses.

Allen Township attempted to keep the property strictly residential. Eventually, both parties agreed to a plan that would allow housing in the front of the property with warehouses behind them.

Many residents were concerned about the growing amount of warehouses and truck traffic in the township.

The board approved a motion splitting the property into six lots, with some zoned residential and others zoned industrial.

In other business, the supervisors provided an update on sign improvements at the intersection of Willowbrook Road with Radar Drive and East Bullshead Road.

BL Companies submitted a proposal that would put two large No Trucks signs at the intersection of Willowbrook and East Bullshead roads. One sign would be on each side of the road.

Similar enhanced signage will be placed near Radar Drive and Willowbrook Road, indicating trucks cannot turn right. Engineer Stan Wojciechowski stated parts of the plan will have to be approved by Pennsylvania Department of Transportation.

BL Companies will also enhance the signage showing there is a 12-foot clearance and add reflective tape to the sign poles.

The board approved the motion to proceed with the updated signage.

The board also announced it will hold a workshop meeting regarding the township’s capital improvement plan 6 p.m. March 16.

Supervisors next meet 6 p.m. Feb. 28 in the fire department building, 3530 Howertown Road.
