Beltrame earns gold at league championships

The Parkland boys swimming program finished third in a five-school field at the Cedar Crest Classic on Feb. 4.

Gabe Krizel continued his solid season as he finished second in the 200-yard individual medley with a personal best time of 2:01.81 and just missed winning the race, finishing a mere .16 of one second behind Nazareth’s Cole Coffman.

Another fine Trojan swimmer this season has been Dannik Khais. He finished third in the 200-yard freestyle at the Classic, registering a personal best 1:52 in the process. Blaine Christ is another swimmer who has contributed for coach Allison McPeek’s club throughout the winter and he also earned a personal best time in the 100-yard breaststroke of 1:04.97. This performance was good for third place, but was less than one second behind winner Logan Shriver of Emmaus and second-place finisher Parker Johnson of Williamsport.

Perhaps the brightest spots of the meet were the Parkland relay teams.

The foursome of Pedro Teran, Eric Friday, Colton Chung and Khais looked good in the 400-yard relay with a third-place finish. In the 200-yard freestyle Marcus Moreef, Anshul Dadayyapally, Doug Bell and Friday were competitive when they clocked in fourth, less than one second out of third place.

In the 200-yard medley the Trojans finished fifth, but once again they were in the hunt for the crown, finishing just over two second behind first-place Muhlenberg. Khais, Christ, Krizel and Moreef all did fine jobs to register a 1:43.44 time.

One week later in the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference diving championship, Parkland’s Ryan Beltrame took gold with a 243.90 performance. Beltrame finished nearly 20 points ahead of Central Catholic’s James Heinze (224.60). Teammates Bradley Kunz (fifth place) and Harry Epstein (eighth place) also finished in the top 10 at the league diving meet.
