Roughies Report: Students win at SkillsUSA districts

Lehigh Career & Technical Institute students collected three dozen top 3 finishes at the annual SkillsUSA District 11 championships Jan. 26. In its 37th year, the event drew hundreds of competitors from Lehigh, Northampton, Bucks and Monroe counties’ career and technical schools to the Allentown Fairgrounds’ Agri-Plex.

Students participated in individual and team contests of technical knowledge and know-how that covered everything from cyber security to masonry.

All of the first-place finishers, including 12 from LCTI, are now qualified to compete at the SkillsUSA state championships in Hershey April 12-14. The following Catasauqua High School students were among LCTI’s top 3 finishers - first place: Ethan Armbuster (technical computer applications); third place: Anthonie Hunsicker (crime scene investigation-team); and third place: Jeremy Lemen (commercial baking).

Congratulations to all of the LCTI medal winners!

The CHS Drama Club presents “Pippin!” With an infectiously unforgettable score from four-time Grammy winner, three-time Oscar winner and musical theater giant Stephen Schwartz, “Pippin” is the story of one young man’s journey to be extraordinary. Winner of four 2013 Tony Awards, including Best Musical Revival, this updated version of “Pippin” continues to captivate and appeal to the young at heart throughout the world.

He seeks it in the glories of the battlefield, the temptations of the flesh and the intrigues of political power. In the end, though, Pippin finds happiness lies not in extraordinary endeavors, but rather in the unextraordinary moments that happen every day.
