Richard E. Smith, 84, formerly of Whitehall, died Feb. 6, 2023. He was the husband of the late Lenore (Piper) Smith for 57 years.

Born in West Catasauqua, he was a son of the late F. Harry Smith of Lehighton and the late Mollie (Kingcaid) Gehris of Allentown.

He was a veteran in the U.S. Army.

He worked for Lucent Technology for 43 years until he retired in July 2000.

He was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Catasauqua.

He was a member of the Masonic Porter Lodge 284.

He is survived by a daughter, Annette Span and husband Joel, with whom he resided; and two sisters, Diane and her husband William Kehm and Lucille and her husband Joseph Raczkowski.

He was predeceased by a grandson, Joseph Richard Span; and a sister, Sandra Kulpa.

Services are private.
