Officers honored for service to borough

Coplay Police Chief Ryan Emerich presented several officers with awards and acknowledgments at the start of the Feb. 7 borough council workshop meeting.

Officer William Globosits was recognized for having 34 years of service with the borough.

All officers on duty through the COVID-19 pandemic - Officers Globosits, Wayne Green, Nathan Smith, Rebecca Saborsky and Quentin Knecht - received honorary pins for the dedication they showed in protecting the public and bravely staying the course during a time of uncertainty.

Additionally, Green was recognized for having 25 years of service on the borough force.

Knecht received the Meritorious Police Duty Pin as a result of his perseverance, faithfulness and vigilance in keeping the roads safe by identifying impaired drivers and, in turn, saving lives, Emerich said.

Smith received the Blue Thunderbolt Pin for his bravery, commitment and quick thinking in a life-or-death decision while disarming an individual on the Ironton Rail Trail.

Coplay Borough Mayor Steve Burker said the police department, administration and borough are fortunate to have these officers on the force.

Council President Lou Bodish expressed his gratitude by thanking the officers for “putting [their] life on the line” each day.
