Emmaus High School names student of the week
Q. In what grade are you currently enrolled?
A. I am in the 12th grade at Emmaus High School.
Q. Please provide the first names of your family members, parents, siblings and pets.
A. Tawan (mom), Gerard (dad), Justus (older brother), David (younger brother) and my dog Zeus.
Q. What is your favorite subject? Why?
A. My favorite subject is science. I love all science-related classes because I love understanding how things work. It all interests me, whether it be physics, biology or computer science.
Q. Have you received any special awards or recognition?
A. Some rewards/recognition I have received include being named All-Conference and All-State in football, the Rick Kulik Memorial Award for Leadership, being named the National Football Foundation Scholar-Athlete of the Year for Emmaus and being named the Mid-Atlantic Male Athlete of the Year for my success in track and field when I was in middle school.
Q. Are you involved in any extracurricular activities? How has being involved in these organizations impacted your high school experience?
A. Some extracurriculars I am involved in are PALS Club, Gratitude Club, Disc Golf Club, Hornet Ambassadors and National Honor Society. I also volunteer at the Da Vinci Science Center in the summer. Being involved in these has been amazing. I have had so many great experiences and I couldn’t be happier I decided to join every one of them.
Q. What do you consider your biggest challenge to date?
A. Maybe not my biggest challenge, but one of the challenges I have faced was when I did not make the JV basketball team as a freshman. It sounds really ridiculous looking back on it that it affected me so much, but I felt like I had worked really hard and I deserved to be on the JV team. Obviously that didn’t happen and it caused a lot of reflection. The experience taught me a lot of lessons and I am glad it happened.
Q. What is your next goal after high school?
A. My next goal after high school is to find success playing football and studying computer science at an Ivy League school.
Q. Whom do you admire? Why?
A. Someone I admire is my dad. He is such a hard worker and, more importantly, a great person. He is, to me, what a father and man should be and I admire a lot of his traits and what he stands for.
Q. For what would you like to be remembered?
A. I would like to be remembered for being well-rounded. Someone who takes pride in succeeding in the classroom, on the field/court and most importantly, someone who takes pride in being a genuine human.
Q. Do you have any advice for your peers?
A. My advice for my peers is to take care of their mental and physical health first. I believe if people focus on caring for those things, they will find themselves having more success in every facet of their life.
