Family, friends and Scouts gathered recently at Heather Glenn Senior Living Center, Upper Macungie Township, to celebrate Elwood “Sonny” Laudenslager’s 80 years of being a registered Scout.
Laudenslager, 91, began his Scouting career as a Cub Scout in 1942 and has been a continuously registered Scout since his youth.
He has been active in all levels of Scouting and has attended 15 national Scout Jamborees over the years.
Bruce Denlinger, alumni committee chairman, Boy Scouts of America, Minsi Trails Council, Allentown, presented Laudenslager with a plaque honoring his 80 years of continuous service to Scouting in the Lehigh Valley.
Rick Christ, Scout Executive and CEO, presented Laudenslager with pins showing years of service to Scouts but was not able to find one that showed a total of 80 years.
He decided to give him 50- and 30-year pins as a lighthearted gesture of the recognition Laudenslager deserved.
Four generations of Laudenslagers, Elwood, son Stephen, grandson Josh, and great-grandson Grayson, all Scouts, joined “Sonny” for his recognition by the Minsi Trails Council.
