Trojan boys fall in close meet vs. CV

The Parkland boys swimming team offered a strong performance in a 133-121 loss to Cumberland Valley on Jan. 21.

The Trojans, whose ethos this season is to show continued improvement throughout, gave the Mechanicsburg school everything it could handle in defeat. They also beat a third school, Williamsport, who also participated in the meet. Parkland won two events, finished second in four and earned seven third-place finishes.

Gabriel Krizel led the Parkland effort. The sophomore took first in the 200-yard individual medley and finished second in the 100-yard backstroke for coach Allison McPeek’s Trojans. Pedro Teran contributed as well by claiming two, third-place finishes in the 200-yard and 500-yard freestyle races. Junior Danneel Khais took third in the 100-yard freestyle race. Diver Ryan Beltrame continued what has been a good season by winning his event.

Earlier that week Parkland took it on the chin in a 119-66 loss to Nazareth. In this battle Bradley Kunz offered a winning performance among divers, with Beltrame taking second place and Harry Epstein finishing third. Another Parkland winner was Blaine Christ, who won the 100-yard breaststroke in a photo-finish by less than one second over the Blue Eagles’ Gabe Carey.

Krizel did not win a race in this one but did finish second in the 200-yard IM, less than one second behind Nazareth winner Cole Coffman. Another second-place finisher was Marcus Moreef, who asserted himself in the 100-yard freestyle race and was less than one second off the winning pace set by the Blue Eagles’ Tyler Tinsley. Teran also performed well in the 500-yard freestyle race, claiming second. The 200-yard freestyle relay team of Ari Levan, Thomas Price, Christ and Beltrame put in a quality effort in finishing second.

On Jan. 25 the Trojans had one of their better showings this season in handling Freedom, 138-43.
