Salisbury wrestlers made a strong showing in the Colonial League Championships Sunday at Catasauqua High School. The team finished in third place with 99.5 points, behind champion Saucon Valley (186.5) and Notre Dame Green Pond (126). The Falcons also had an individual champion in Mitchell Miller and had three wrestlers take home individual third place finishes.
At 285 pounds, Miller won by fall in both the quarterfinals and semifinals before earning a 7-2 decision in the championship match against Notre Dame’s Gino Guerrisi. Miller has put together an impressive 22-4 season with 18 wins by fall.
Last season Miller placed fourth in districts and seventh in regionals as a member of the Allentown Central Catholic team.
Central Catholic and Salisbury combined their wrestling squads for the season due to a lack of wrestlers at each school. The Vikings had decided to drop their wrestling program before Salisbury made an agreement to have them wrestle as part of their program.
John Samy (133) took third place at the league championships with a 4-0 decision over Michael Fuller of Bangor in the title bout. At 160, Toby Linn took third with a technical fall over Nuallan King of Pen Argyl, winning 17-2. At 189, Jakub Gloc decisioned Pen Argyl’s Gian Greggo 6-2.
Mason Holva wrapped up fifth place in the 145-pound classification with a 9-1 victory over Teddy Musselman of Palisades.
On Feb. 11, Salisbury will host the Salisbury Duals as the Falcons welcome nine other schools, including Dieruff, Northern Lehigh, and Pocono Mountain West. They will have a couple weeks off after to prepare for the individual District 11 Championships on Feb. 24-25.
