The Emmaus High School girls basketball team was desperately searching for a victory to get back into the win column last week. The Hornets were able to find that positive momentum to finish out the week.
After dropping a narrow contest by just three points on the road at Northampton last Tuesday night, they took it to Whitehall in a 36-point victory at home on Friday night to halt a season-long, five-game losing streak.
Emmaus and Northampton had another tightly-contested game. In their first meeting back on Jan. 3, the Hornets came out on top 46-40. But this time around, the Kids got the better of Emmaus, holding on for a 45-42 win on their home floor.
The Green Hornets scored the game’s first 14 points and led 16-4 after the opening quarter, on their way to a 57-21 win over the Zephyrs. All five members of the starting lineup finished with at least seven points, led by Paige Inman with a game-high 15 points. Taylor Griffith had three 3-pointers and finished with 10 points. Gabby De Vita and Mya Cooper each contributed nine points, while Cassandra Doemling added seven.
The win clinched a berth in the upcoming District 11 6A tournament and also helps the Green Hornets’ bid for a spot in the conference tournament.
Emmaus is now 11-8 overall and 8-5 in the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference. This week, they host Allen on Tuesday before welcoming rival Parkland on Thursday to round out the week.
