The Rev. Dr. Roy K. Luckenbill Sr., 93, of North Catasauqua, died Jan. 31, 2023, while a guest at Fellowship Community. He was the husband of the late Joan P. (Hoy) Luckenbill for 64 years.
Born in Schuylkill Haven, he was a son of the late Homer F. and Edith (Blankenhorn) Luckenbill Sr.
He studied at Lebanon Valley College and at Temple University. He was a graduate of Northeast Bible College, Eastern Pilgrim College, the Evangelical School of Theology and Trinity Theological Seminary. He earned a Th.D. in theology and a D.Min. in ministry.
He was in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict,
He was a retired Evangelical Congregational Church pastor. He wrote the book “Before Pentecost,” a study of the Holy Spirit from creation to Pentecost. He visited 18 countries and conducting many teaching and preaching tours to The Holy Land.
He was a member of Delta Epsilon Chi Honor Society and of the Catasauqua American Legion Post 215.
He is survived by a daughter, Joy L. Gravely with husband Michael; a daughter-in-law, Judith A. Luckenbill; a daughter, Barbara Seitz with husband Michael; five grandchildren, Christa Buonaiuto, Justin Luckenbill, Jonathon and Michael E. Gravely and Kenneth Luckenbill; and five great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by a son, Roy “Bud” K. Luckenbill Jr.; and six siblings.
