Four bids received for HVAC improvements project

Council President Ron Karboski introduced himself at the Feb. 6 Macungie Borough Council meeting and expressed his gratitude for his council members.

Lehigh County Executive Phillips Armstrong and Community Liaison Yorman De La Rosa attended the meeting to introduce themselves. Armstrong updated council on the IronPigs stadium and the county’s role in keeping the IronPigs in the Lehigh Valley.

Bidding began for the Macungie Borough Hall and police department HVAC system. The low bid was received from JBM Mechanical, Inc. with $35,200 for the police station and $40,500 for Macungie Borough Hall.

There was a meeting between the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, Columbia and Barry Isett & Associates, Inc. over the hump on Route 100. This was caused by directional drilling across Route 100. Repairs will begin April 1 when PennDOT permits paving. There will traffic changes during the repairs.

Macungie is looking for an engineer for the Hickory Bridge/Church Street project. This is due to a PennDOT requirement.

Nina Solivan submitted a letter of resignation. Approval was made to hire an interim assistant treasurer/clerk which could start as a full-time position.

Resolution 2023-01 was approved. This is the policy for donations to nonprofit organizations. The resolution lists information and documentation which will be taken into consideration when evaluating requests such as two year profit and loss statements, current year operating budgets, statement on how the donated funds will be utilized, mission statement and more.

The Department of Public Works had various purchase requests greater than $1,000 which were budgeted including sidewalk de-icer, fire hydrant adapters, a booster pump and a snowplow for the water truck among other items.

Council also received information on the new police car for $47,917.

The Macungie Volunteer Fire Department asked for release of some of their funds to help with the purchase of fuel. It was granted.

Former council member Roseann Schleicher attended the meeting to notify the borough of a gift from the Macungie Holiday Committee. The group is donating the eagle carved at the Macungie Holiday event in 2022 and suggested it be placed near the flagpole at Town Hall.

There was an executive session held regarding real estate, legal matters and a personnel complaint.
