LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

Girls hoping to extend streak

With six games left to play, the Catasauqua girls basketball team needed to “win-out” to make the District 11 playoffs and so far the team has done just that.

The girls beat Southern Lehigh 31-21 on Jan. 24 and followed that with a win over Salisbury Jan. 26, 39-24, and then won again against Northern Lehigh 37-31 on Jan. 27.

The team will need to knock off Wilson on Feb. 1 and then Notre Dame ES on Feb. 4. followed by Northwestern next week.

Against NL, Sophia Becker led the way with 11 points, followed by Hailey Jenkins who added 10 and Delaney Troxell who chipped in with nine. Alivia Bear had five and Jordan Soltis added a bucket.

Jenkins hit three buckets in the game and added four foul shots. Troxell was 7-for-8 from the foul line and also added a first quarter basket. The Rough Riders got off to a quick start, and led 12-0 before the Bulldogs came back to score 18 in the second quarter to cut the lead to 22-18.

Against the Falcons, Jenkins added 15 points to lead the way for the Roughs. Becker had 13 and Troxell chipped in with seven while Soltis had four.

Catty led 9-4 after one quarter as Jenkins hit her only three of the game in that frame. Becker would add four points. CHS extended its lead to 20-11 after the first half. Both Jenkins and Soltis each had four in the second quarter.

Becker would carry the Roughs in the third hitting for five points, and Jenkins finished with six. The Falcons would win the third quarter 10-8 but Catty put the game away, outscoring SHS 11-3.
