Freedom’s swim team hosted Parkland on Jan. 24 and despite the Patriot boys loss, 138-43, and the Patriot girls loss, 142-40, the day was full of close swims, starting with the boys 200 medley relay.
Ryan Rummel, AJ Black, Micah Lawser, and Giovanni Camaione placed third in the first boys event of the meet with a time of 1:52.41, missing second place by one-half second.
Rummel was the Patriots’ first individual event winner of the day, clinching first place in the 50 freestyle with a time of 24.16. Alivia Deemer placed second in the same event for the girls with a time of 28.02.
The Pates had strong swims in the 100 butterfly: Sofia Nabyt placed second in 1:08.13, out touching Parkland’s Ella Rafeld, and Lawser took third place in 1:01.63, missing second place by a hair to Parkland’s Dannik Khais.
Black was the second individual event winner for Freedom with a huge victory in the 100 free in 54.56. Parkland’s Jacob Grab was second in 54.58, and Thomas Price, also from Parkland, was third in 54.59.
The 100 breaststroke proved to be another close race for Black, won by Parkland’s Gabe Krizel in 1:09.13. Colton Chung came in second for the Trojans in 1:09.64, and Black was third in 1:09.74.
Rummel earned third-place points in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:01.42. Parkland’s Eric Linchuk was second with a time of 1:01.20, and Pedro Teran was the winner in 1:00.07. Freedom will host Liberty for their last dual meet of the season on Feb. 7.
