LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

Spaghetti, meatballs on the menu at St. Es

St. Elizabeth of Hungary Roman Catholic Church, Fullerton, held a successful spaghetti dinner Jan. 28 in its social hall. Dinners were served during 4 p.m., 5:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. seatings. The 5:30 p.m. dinner found the social hall full of attendees.

Dinner proceeds were earmarked for St. Elizabeth Regional School, which serves a number of parishes in the Lehigh Valley. Several volunteers at the dinner are students there. Visit sercc.org for more information about the school.

The spaghetti dinner was swamped with patrons seeking to assist the school and also dine on a quality spaghetti and meatball dinner. Due to the large attendance, the kitchen staff appeared laser-focused and up-tempo on their food preparation duties.

Jessica Robinson and her daughter Elliana Soto, who is a student at St. Elizabeth Regional School, staffed the ticket table near the front door. Their welcoming smiles were appreciated by attendees and set the stage for a positive experience.

Kayla Huynh, of Allentown, projecting a confident, happy demeanor, was the registrar of attendees for the event. She is also a student at St. Elizabeth’s school.

Reina Haddad and friend Angeline Johns were very cheerful as they served dinners to hungry patrons. They seemed to enjoy their volunteer duties helping people.

Diners Thomas and Kathy Hamilton, of Whitehall, were relaxed and enjoyed a bottle of wine with their spaghetti dinner as they soaked up the ambience of a large gathering of multigenerational families and others who warmly chatted as they ate their dinners.

The patron saint - St. Elizabeth of Hungary - might have been proud of the effort put on by a large cadre of dedicated volunteers.

St. Elizabeth of Hungary was born July 7, 1207, and died Nov. 17, 1231, at the age of 24. She was canonized as a saint by Pope Gregory IX May 27, 1235. She is considered a symbol of Christian charity, as she dedicated most of her young life to helping and caring for the poor and sick.

The combined positive energy in the social hall that day might have traveled up to St. Elizabeth of Hungary, catching her soul and having her smile down on a beautiful event put on by beautiful people at a parish bearing her name.
