Finding My Daughters Team
It sounded like the perfect assignment. Writing the story for not just an event, but, the ‘launch” of a program to support women and organizations that protect women from rape, incest and genitalia mutilation. A very important and current subject.
So pen in hand, I set course for Dana Hall – Moravian University 5:30 p.m. 1-10-23. Arriving around 5 p.m. at the Moravian north campus, I notice it is oddly quiet – no one walking around campus, dark buildings. I can’t find Dana Hall. No signs, no people no parking, no indication that an event, a launch was about to begin – Nothing, Nada, zilch.
Undaunted I found a Moravian security guard who was more than happy to help me. He explained that the campus was empty due to winter break and the students had gone home. He called the Moravian security main office, he called the south campus he called another officer – no one had any idea that this event was happening, although he did remember an email several weeks ago mentioning My Daughters Team.
Hope springs eternal. Now both of us became determined to broaden our search. Traveling in separate vehicles we drove around the North Campus – the student union, the auditorium, dining areas, and other meeting spots –once again...nothing. We drove to the South campus; they sent us back to the North Campus. It was now after 5:30 pm and still there was nothing going on.
Totally frustrated and disappointed, the security guard admitted to me that there is no Dana Hall at Moravian – perhaps I should try Lehigh University. I bid him farewell and off I drove to Lehigh University.
Lehigh University, like Moravian, was dark, deserted and also in the midst of winter break. I quadruple checked the date time and place and called it a day.
Still plagued by thoughts of “what if’s?” and “what did I miss?” I sought aid from the trusty internet to help find My Daughters Team. After arriving home I tried to e-mail Kelly Lewis, who is the spokesperson for My Daughters Team. He only gives limited 15 minute pre-scheduled telephone appointments. I followed the automated prompts and scheduled an appointment to talk to him 1-12-23 at 4 p.m. I also emailed him a list of questions about My Daughters Team. Once again there was no phone call, email or response. I never heard from Kelly Lewis.
I believe in the need for programs like My Daughters Team and I would like to see it come to fruition. I have tried Googling, hunting assorted related web sites and search engines, with no success - I suspect the launch was grounded.
