Business as usual

The Bethlehem Area School District recognized January as school director’s month, and Superintendent Dr. Joseph Roy opened the Jan. 23 meeting thanking the directors for their service. Ten students from Freedom HS Chorus performed a thank-you song for the directors.

Governor Wolf ES Principal Rick Amato and Bethlehem Education Association President Laura Kenny also thanked board members for their service.

Each director was given a certificate and Dr. Roy spoke about their individual contributions and accomplishments.

The agenda items: Paying bills, pay increase for Fountain hill crossing guards, pay increase for after duty support police, EMS and fire (events) were voted on and all passed unanimously. Curriculum matters approved by the board include Agreement with Marker learning, and agreement with workforce board Lehigh Valley were also approved.

Board member Dr. Karen Beck-Pooley reported the Northampton Community College board of Trustees met and are pleased to report that enrollment is picking up. Enrollment dropped in 2020-21 due to COVID. High school representatives Jessica DeEsch (Liberty) and Jasnally Florian (Freedom) gave their respective reports.

The next BASD committee meeting will be Feb. 6 at the Education Center.
