Teran, Khais each capture two events in team victory
The Parkland boys swimming team continued to improve as the calendar entered 2023. The Trojans picked up wins over Northampton and Dieruff since flipping the calendar.
The Trojans beat the Konkrete Kids 139-46. Their dominance was evidenced by 11 wins, nine second places and eight third-place finishes.
Two swimmers - Pedro Teran and Danneel Khais - each won two events. Teran claimed the 100-yard freestyle and backstroke, while Khais was tops in the 200-yard IM and 500-yard freestyle.
Sophomore Colton Chung continued to turn heads in what has been a fine season. He won the 200-yard IM and finished second in the 100-yard breaststroke.
Winning swimming is standard operating procedure for Marcus Moreef and the Parkland senior continued his superb work this season in claiming the 100-yard breaststroke and finishing third in the 200-yard IM. Another pool stud is Anshul Dadayyapally, who is always doing a fine job whenever he jumps in a pool. Against the Kids he won the 50-yard freestyle and took third in the 100-yard backstroke.
Six days later the boys bombed Dieruff, 139-26. The foursome of Eric Linchuk, Blaine Christ, Khais and Moreef won the 200-yard IM relay by just over one second over teammates Doug Bell, Jack Chu, Teran and Chung. Khais did some fine solo swimming in claiming the 200-yard freestyle and 100-yard butterfly, while Linchuk triumphed in the 200-yard IM. Moreef won the 50-yard freestyle and Chung emerged the winner in the 100-yard freestyle and 100-yard backstroke.
While the Dieruff meet occurred on a Tuesday it didn’t stop Parkland’s Eric Friday from winning the 500-yard freestyle. Friday, along with teammates Gabe Krizel, Teran and Chung, won the 400-yard freestyle relay. The 200-yard freestyle relay team of Ari Levin, Chu, Khais and Moreef claimed victory, while Levin won the 100-yard breaststroke. Harry Epstein and Bradley Kunz finished respectively one and two in diving.
The Trojans had a tougher time in the Bucknell Invite on Jan. 7, finishing eighth in the eight-team field. Ryan Beltrame finished second in diving.
