The result of the dual meet between Northampton and East Stroudsburg South had been long decided with the K-Kids up 68-0, yet a buzz of anticipation filled Pete Schneider Gymnasium as the final pair of wrestlers took the mat.

With several dozen youth wrestlers leading the chant of “Da-gen, Da-gen, Da-gen,” Northampton senior Dagen Condomitti delivered a crowd-pleasing fall to claim his 100th career match victory for the Kids.

Condomitti spoke about the atmosphere.

“It was kind of cool,” he said. “I never experienced something like that, where everyone was yelling my name. It just showed me that all of these kids are rooting for me. It felt kind of good.” He went on, “I felt like they were the same way I was, really excited to see the guys in high school. The high school kids are like role models. I looked up to kids like Bobby Fehr and Zach Valley, that’s just how it is.”

Over the weekend, classmate Carson Wagner joined Condomitti in the 100-win club during the Escape the Rock tournament at Council Rock South High School. The two seniors were Northampton’s only medalists at the prestigious event, both finishing sixth. The K-Kids finished 20th in the team standings. The top 8 teams were all nonpublic schools.

Head coach Joe Provini talked about the seniors’ accomplishment.

“Especially the guys who came through the COVID year, it’s an important milestone,” he said. “It’s much harder than it was pre-COVID. Coming in having two returning state placewinners, two Division I commits has made my life a lot easier because they set the tone at practice and the other guys look up to them.”

ETR represented the last major competitive opportunity for the team before the postseason. The Kids have three dual meets remaining on successive Wednesdays, all against lesser opponents: home for Pocono Mountain West on 1/18, at Pocono Mountain East on 1/25, and home for East Stroudsburg North on 2/1.

District Duals are on Feb. 4 at Freedom High School. Northampton is currently fourth in the D11 AAA power rankings behind Becahi, Pottsville, and Nazareth. If the rankings were to remain unchanged, the Kids would wrestle Easton in the quarterfinals. The individual postseason starts February 24.
