Macungie Borough Council met for its regularly scheduled meeting Jan. 16 at the Macungie Institute.
John Yerman resigned as council president and Ron Karboski was unanimously approved as the new council president.
Mayor Ron Conrad wished everyone a Happy New Year and recognized Martin Luther King Day quoting Martin Luther King Jr. “Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter.”
The Macungie Police Department is looking into another vehicle due to an accident. A vehicle was purchased in 2022. Money is set aside each year to purchase a vehicle every three years. Council will look into purchasing another vehicle.
Council member Carl Sell wrote a letter saying he would like to donate his council paycheck to Macungie Flower Park. It was decided he must write a check rather than use his paycheck. Gratitude was expressed for his contribution.
The Department of Public Works’ request to purchase salt for $3,705 was approved.
Public works also needs to purchase new tires for the water truck. The amount of $2,100 was approved.
New job positions which were approved with the budget are being discussed. There is a job description for the public works position and for the assistant treasurer/clerk. The part-time coding officer has to be decided upon.
Ordinance 2022-02 was approved unanimously by a roll call vote in council. This ordinance updates the pension plan for the new year.
