Catasauqua’s 2-14 boys’ basketball record this winter could be attributed to a number of factors. But veteran head coach Eric Snyder can answer it in a few words, citing Tuesday night’s 63-39 loss to Palmerton. The loss was the Roughies’ fifth-straight.

Jeremiah Cofie led Catty with 11 points.

“We couldn’t score, we turned the ball over, and we missed foul shots,” said Snyder. “We missed easy little, enclosed layups, and it’s very frustrating.

“Our kids played excellent defense and did everything they had to do. But we couldn’t score in the second half. Our kids played every aspect of the game outstanding except scoring, and also some very, very questionable decision making about our passing.”

The previous night against Kutztown, the script was the same in a 56-45 defeat. Irving Torres had 16 and Bryann Rivera added 11 for the Roughies.

“Our kids have played really well and have played really hard, but we just can’t score,” said Snyder after the loss to Kutztown Monday night. “We just miss too many wide-open shots.”

Snyder stated that his team was down 28–2 at halftime against Kutztown. The Rough Riders came out and scored the first seven points of the second half to take a 29-28 lead. Both teams exchanged baskets with Kutztown taking a lead 32-29 before Catty regained the lead at 34-32.

From there, the Roughies went into a cold shooting spell and Kutztown built a 46-34 advantage and eventually went on to a victory.

“We missed three-pointers and close jump shots,” added Snyder. “In the first half, we must have missed about 35 shots. We work to get open, and then we can’t convert the shot.

“It’s frustrating because we’re not scoring and winning because of a lack of effort. It is there, but we just can’t score enough.”

The Roughies will travel to Pen Argyl Thursday and Southern Lehigh Tuesday.
