Bernard John Bast, 84, of Bethlehem, died January 8, 2023, at his residence. Born in Plymouth, Massachusetts, he was a son of the late Leonard J., Sr. and Marie (Volz) Bast. He was the husband of Mary L. (Chamberlain) Kuba for 12 years; and of the late T. Sheila (Orlando) Bast.
He was a chemical engineer at the Homer Research Lab of the former Bethlehem Steel until he retired in 2000.
He was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Roman Catholic Church, Bethlehem Township.
He was a member of the Delaware River Shad Fishermen’s Association. He was a past assistant scout leader of Boy Scout Troop 359, Bethlehem. He was on the Bethlehem Township Recreation Board. He was a past treasurer of the Bethlehem Township Athletic Association.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, John B. (Kathy) Bast of Easton, Victor C. Bast of Bethlehem, Frank N. (Dawn) Bast of Emmaus; Stephanie Bast (David Grillo) of Los Angeles, California; a stepson, Christian (Karen) Kuba of Sugarloaf; two brothers, Leonard J. Jr. (Grace) Bast of Bethlehem and Raymond (Mary) Bast of South Carolina; 11 grandchildren; one step-granddaughter; and one great-grandson.
He was predeceased by two brothers, Thomas and James Bast.
