The Sanctuary at Haafsville contract approved

During a recent Alburtis Borough Council meeting, public comment was given by a resident of the borough who had an issue with the Alburtis Newsletter, specifically an article from former PA State Sen. Pat Browne, R-16th.

Browne announced in his article that all the work was complete for Lockridge Lane; however, this was a miscommunication in the article. The article highlighted Browne for helping Alburtis Borough receive grant money for the construction project that will update infrastructure on various roads in the borough.

Council reaffirmed the work will be done, but they are just waiting for the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation to relay what and how the work must be done. Council is hopeful the work will start in 2023.

A motion to hire a full-time police officer was approved. The officer must complete a physical and psychological examination and a one-year probationary period.

The next item approved was Resolution No. 2022-8. This resolution appointed Christopher S. Basile, CPA, the independent auditor for the fiscal year 2023. Basile works for France Anderson Basile, a tax preparation service based in Emmaus.

Following this resolution, Borough Solicitor Dave Knerr introduced his 2023 engagement letter to the borough. It outlined his terms of service. He has been serving the borough faithfully for the past three decades. This was approved by the council.

The 2023 Assistance for Strays Contract from The Sanctuary at Haafsville was then brought forward. The fees will be $60 per cat and $135 per dog. If after-hours emergency care is required, the township is only responsible for the initial $150. The Sanctuary of Haafsville serves several surrounding municipalities. The contract was approved.

A motion to pay Linde Corporations for work on Chestnut Circle West was approved.

There was approval to keep the same company for the UBMax Utility System, which is responsible for utility billing in the borough.

Alburtis Borough Council meetings are held at 260 Franklin St. in Alburtis.
