Troop M announces holiday enforcement results
The Pennsylvania State Police Troop M - Bethlehem recently announced the results of the Christmas and New Year holiday enforcement periods for 2022-2023.
The Christmas holiday enforcement period started 12:01 a.m. Dec. 23, 2022 and concluded 11:59 p.m. Dec. 25, 2022.
The New Year’s holiday enforcement period began 12:01 a.m. Dec. 30, 2022 and ended 11:59 p.m. Jan. 1.
The safety initiative Pennsylvania Aggressive Driving Enforcement Education Program targeted drivers who allegedly aggressively operated their motor vehicle in a manner which was dangerous to the public, which included speeding, seat belt violations and child seat belt infractions, according to a news release from state police.
In addition, Selective Traffic Enforcement Against Drunk Drivers and Drug Recognition Expert Troopers specifically focused on apprehending motorists who allegedly operated their vehicles while under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
During the Christmas enforcement period, Troop M, which includes Lehigh, Northampton and Bucks counties, investigated a total of 37 motor vehicle crashes and made 17 DUI arrests.
According to authorities, two of the crashes in the Christmas enforcement period were alcohol related and one of the crashes resulted in a fatality.
During the New Year’s enforcement period, Troop M Troopers investigated 33 motor vehicle crashes and made 30 DUI arrests.
According to authorities, two crashes during the period were alcohol related. No one was fatally injured in the crashes during the New Year’s enforcement period.
PSP Troop M - Belfast Station conducted a DUI checkpoint Dec. 23, 2022, in Northampton County which resulted in one DUI arrest and 13 summary citations.
