Richard L. Bateman, 95, of Allentown, died Jan. 3, 2023, in Phoebe Home, Allentown.

He was the husband of Iris (Gerling) Bateman, who died in 2006.

Born in Allentown, he was a son of the late John H. and Mildred (Heimbach) Bateman.

A graduate of Whitehall High School and Muhlenberg College, he was a veteran of the U.S. Army and attained the rank of staff sergeant while serving with the 7th Infantry Division in Korea.

He retired from General Electric where he served as a regional manager in the financial services Unit.

Before joining GE, he was employed by the General Acceptance Corporation, serving as a vice president of GAC Finance Inc. and president of the subsidiary, General Rediscount Corp.

He was a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ, Fullerton.

A past commander and life member of Fullerton Post 367 of the American Legion, he was also a life member of the Egypt VFW Post 7293 and Fullerton Fire Co. No. 1.

His survivors include numerous nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by sisters June Glaze and Doris Case; and brother John H. Jr.

His services will be 11 a.m. Jan. 17 in Gilbert Funeral Home, 444 Pershing Blvd., Whitehall, PA 18052, where his family will receive guests beginning at 10 a.m.

Interment with Legion Honors will follow in Garden of Peace Cemetery, Whitehall.

The family requests no flowers and suggests contributions may be made to Peaceable Kingdom, Lehigh County Humane Society, or other animal shelters of one’s choice.
