Richard L. Bateman, 95, of Allentown, died Jan. 3, 2023, in Phoebe Home, Allentown. He was the husband of the late Iris (Gerling) Bateman.
Born in Allentown, he was a son of the late John H. and Mildred (Heimbach) Bateman.
He graduated from Whitehall High School and Muhlenberg College.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and attained the rank of staff sergeant while serving with the 7th Infantry Division in Korea.
He retired from General Electric where he served as a regional manager in the financial services unit. Before joining GE, he was employed by the General Acceptance Corporation, serving as a vice president of GAC Finance Inc. and president of the subsidiary, General Rediscount Corp.
He was a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ, Fullerton.
A past commander and life member of Fullerton American Legion Post 367, he was also a life member of the Egypt Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7293 and Fullerton Fire Company.
He is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by two sisters, June Glaze and Doris Case; and a brother, John H. Jr.
There will be a calling time starting 10 a.m., followed by 11 a.m. services, Jan. 17 at the funeral home, 444 Pershing Blvd., Whitehall.
