Macungie Borough Council met for a very short meeting Jan. 3, a Tuesday night meeting due to the New Year’s holiday. One of the main purposes of the meeting was for reorganizing of council; however, this did not happen due to the absence of Mayor Ronald Conrad. The reorganization will be rescheduled for Jan. 16.
A question arose about the ability of the borough manager to work from home. Are others permitted to do so? This was negotiated into his contract.
The status of the Lehigh Street lights was discussed. It is uncertain as to the status of the project. Tracy Smith and/or John Brown are needed to answer this question.
Councilman Ron Karboski made a compliment to Nina Solivan, assistant to the borough manager. Solivan needed information from the Governor’s office, which she sought on her own, to set up the borough’s financial books. Karboski expressed his gratitude for this.
It was mentioned Barry Isett & Associates offers grant assistance to the borough every year. This service, worth $6,106, was completed as nonbillable to the borough. This pro bono aid continues from year to year and has provided Macungie Borough $4,114,554 for various projects for 2022 from equipment purchases, police improvements and public/park amenities.
