Clymer gets third place at BHWC
The Northwestern Lehigh wrestling team competed in the Bethlehem Holiday Wrestling Classic at Liberty High School last week.
In the team standings, Northwestern finished 22nd out of 32 teams from Pennsylvania and New Jersey with Dalton Clymer placing third in the 172-pound classification. Two other Northwestern Lehigh wrestlers finished in the top five.
Clymer won his first two matches to advance to the championship quarterfinals where he pinned Wilson West Lawn’s Blaise Eidle at the 6:34 mark of the match. Clymer’s only loss came in the semifinal round when Dominic Wheatley of Nazareth picked up a major decision over Clymer.
Wheatley went on to win the 172-pound weight class as part of the Nazareth squad that won the team competition. Clymer, who is now 12-2 on the season, came back to win his next two battles to finish in third.
Buck Miller placed fourth in the 189-pound class when Phillipsburg’s Caleb Rivera edged out a 7-6 decision. Miller won by a fall in his first two bouts and then scored a major decision over Bennett Fritz of Honesdale in a 12-2 final. In the championship semifinals, Miller was pinned at the 3:39 mark by Jacob Jones of Saucon Valley, but he returned in the consolation semis to beat Aaron Kirby of Stroudsburg 3-0 before falling in the third-place match. Miller upped his record to 11-2.
Also placing in the top five was 160-pounder Luke Fugazzotto, who opened with a pin of Warwick’s Gabe Sanchez and then won a decision in round two and a 12-2 major decision against Easton’s Nolan Krazer in the quarterfinals. Fugazzotto lost by technical fall in the semifinals and then fell 8-6 to Quakertown’s Zach Borzio. In the fifth-place match, Fugazzotto, 10-4 this season, downed Anthony Attilo of Spring-Ford 11-6.
Northwestern Lehigh (1-3 overall, 1-2 Colonial League) returns to its dual meet schedule with matches against Bangor and Panther Valley this week before taking part in the Parkland Duals Saturday.
