Robert D. Miller
Robert D. Miller, 80, of Montrose, formerly of Coplay, died Jan. 1, 2023.
Born in Orefield, he was the son of the late Franklin and Leona (Schumaker) Miller.
A longtime teacher, he retired from the Parkland School District after 32 years, with five previous years at Pine Point Junior High, Camden.
In addition to teaching, he was a track and field coach for more than a decade where he was often spotted running alongside his athletes, even on the coldest days.
He also assisted coaching other sports teams throughout his teaching years.
An avid hunter, fisherman and conservationist, he enjoy any time outdoors.
He also took time to give back to the community through work with Jordan Lutheran Church and Lehigh Valley organizations such as the Lions Club.
In his last years living in Montrose, he grew a large crop of potatoes each year on his property.
When harvest time came, he had the local Boy Scout Troop dig them up and donate them to the local food bank.
His survivors include children Michell Kauffman (Michael) of Cambridge, Md., Kimberly Miller of Cambridge, Christopher Miller (Stacy) of Crossroads, Texas; daughter-in-law Colleen Miller of Walnutport; special friend and companion Helen Jones; former spouse Chell-Doree Dorney; brothers Barry Miller (Rose) of Whitehall, Daniel Miller (Norma) of Margate, Fla., and Mark Miller (Devon) of Whitehall; 11 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a son, Ted Miller.
A memorial service will take place in the spring at his cabin in Montrose. The family will notify loved ones in the future when the date is scheduled.
