Seasonal Spirits abound at the historic George Taylor House

Paranormal and human spirits mingled in the air Dec. 17, 2022, at the George Taylor House, Lehigh and Poplar streets, Catasauqua, for the Seasonal Spirits event.

Several past inhabitants of this house have reportedly made their presence known, according to GTH President Jason Kern and Treasurer and Event Coordinator Candace Maxwell. Kern and Maxwell’s curiosity motivated them to partner with Interstate Paranormal Research Investigator Anthony Grothous. Grothous has 25 years of experience as a paranormal investigator and has been with Interstate Paranormal for five years.

His fascination with the paranormal started when he was on a class field trip to Fort Delaware at age 12. While goofing around with his peers, they accidentally joined a tour group that wasn’t from their school. Suddenly, the tour guide “just disappeared.”

This started Grothous on a lifelong search to find and explain the existence of paranormal activity.

Interstate Paranormal first investigated GTH in January 2022. The overwhelming amount of paranormal activity recorded and observed encouraged the investigators to return in both February and March.

Another public event was held in October with the Harvest and Haunts event. The expectation of both GTH and Interstate Paranormal for these events is “history first and paranormal second.” Proceeds from events like this go toward the GTH.

Paranormal investigations are complex. The goal is to establish whether it is energy, entity or both. Video, audio, EMF reflectors, motion and heat detectors as well as visual and self-reports all contribute to the investigation.

Special guest Daryl Marston, from A&E Ghost Hunters, explained to the group the techniques are used in a variety of environments to get the clearest clairvoyant experience.

Grothous explained “we all leave an emotional imprint on our environment,” and some are greater than others and still have a story to tell. The stories at the George Taylor House continue to be told.

The signer of the Declaration of Independence built this Georgian-style house in 1768. It was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1971, and the George Taylor House was purchased by the borough in 2009. As a historical site, it is maintained by a nonprofit group and the Lehigh County Green Future Fund.
