Carl R. Schafer, 77, of Northampton, died Dec. 15, 2022, at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest, Allentown. He was the husband of Janet (Martinuzzi) Schafer for 55 years.
Born in Allentown, he was a son of the late Carl and Ellen (Kiechel) Schafer.
He was a 1964 Liberty High School graduate. He earned an associate degree in applied science from Lehigh Carbon Community College.
He worked at Mack Trucks for more than 30 years and retired from warranty management in 2009. He then was a school bus driver and monitor with First Student Inc.
He was, for 40 years, a lieutenant, assistant chief and fire police chief for East Allen Township Fire Company. He worked for a number of years with fire crews during the Nazareth and Pocono races.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Angela Schafer of Bethlehem and Christine Schafer of Northampton; four grandchildren, Gianna Dinh, Olivia Reed and Sophia and Christian Hutchens; a brother, Terry Schafer and wife Michelle of Whitehall; and cousins, Rodell Billheimer and wife Cindy of Florida and Sylvia Jane and Frank Hahn of Bethlehem.
He was predeceased by a brother, Donald Schafer.
