Macungie Borough Council announced at its Dec. 19 meeting the heating and ventilation at the 21 Locust St. building which is police headquarters and borough hall is ready to be advertised for bid.
The police department will have existing equipment removed and replaced. Possible upgrades to borough offices may also be included. The expected start date is Feb. 7, 2023 with a projected completion by June 30, 2023. The building will be occupied during construction.
Police Officer Daniel Wiedermann resigned from the force effective Dec. 31.
Macungie Borough Tax Collector Cynthia Hartzell wrote a letter regarding excessive mud in the 200 block of East Main Street She also noted junk cars, high grass, bushes and trees over sidewalks throughout the borough. Her concerns were forwarded to Borough Manager John Brown.
The contract with the Emmaus Public Library was approved with a slight increase in funds from the borough. The borough will make one payment of $21,028 to the library with the contract ending Dec. 31, 2023.
A Pennsylvania Department of Transportation permit was received for some road repaving along Route 100. This project will be handled in late March 2023 as the current weather is not suitable for paving. The work that needs to be done is repaving after a conduit was installed across Route 100.
The 2023 budget was approved during a special meeting Dec. 12.
The next meeting will be 7:30 p.m. Jan. 3, 2023 in the auditorium at the Macungie Institute, 510 E. Main St., Macungie.
