Allentown Symphony Orchestra, “Holiday Pops,“ 2 p.m., 7:30 p.m. Dec. 17, Miller Symphony Hall, Allentown. ASO Music Director Diane Wittry, conducts the concerts headlined by Broadway star and DeSales University Division of Performing Arts graduate Phoenix Best. In addition, the concerts feature a Community Chorus, with Tom Dressler, director, of singers from First Presbyterian Church, Allentown; College Hill Presbyterian Church, Easton, and members of the Allentown Symphony Chorus. Also: dancers Ariana Hernandez, Sophia Marut and Kathryn Rodger from the Lehigh Valley Charter Arts High School, with Jennifer Weaver, director-choreographer. And: Jameson Platte, cello; Parkland Chorale, with Allison Lagan, director, and special guest Jarrod Yuskauskas. It’s a celebration of carols, classics, sing-alongs and more. Diamond Rio, “Holiday & Hits,” 8 p.m. Dec. 16, Penn’s Peak, Jim Thorpe. Doors open at 6 p.m. Diamond Rio was founded in in 1989 in Nashville, Tenn. The lineup is: Marty Roe, lead vocals; Gene Johnson, mandolin, tenor vocals; Jimmy Olander, lead guitar, acoustic guitar, banjo; Dan Truman, keyboards; Dana Williams, bass guitar, baritone vocals, and Brian Prout, drums. Diamond Rio’s most recent release, “I Made It,” is its 10th studio album. Diamond Rio’s “Meet In The Middle” (1991) marked the first time a country music group reached No. 1 with a debut single. The band is also known for its hits “How Your Love Makes Me Feel,” “One More Day,” “Beautiful Mess,” “Unbelievable” and “In A Week or Two.” The band released its autobiography, “Beautiful Mess: The Story of Diamond Rio” (2009). The band has sold more than 10 million albums, won a Grammy Award, Dove Award, six Vocal Group of the Year wins (CMA and ACM), released two Greatest Hit albums, a live album and a Christmas album. Band members are spokespersons for Big Brothers Big Sisters. The band has raised more than $1 million for non-profits and received the Minnie Pearl Humanitarian Award.
