Carol Facchiano was elected president of the Parkland School Board for the new term, and Marisa Ziegler was chosen vice president during the Dec. 6 reorganization meeting.

Facchiano, who served as vice president the past two years, has been on the board for seven years.

Nominated by Ziegler, Facchiano received the votes of Robert Cohen, David Hein, Jay Rohatgi, Lisa Roth, Annette Wilcox, Ziegler and herself.

Jarrett Coleman and Patrick Foose voted no.

Facchiano thanked her fellow board members for their trust and recognized outgoing President David Hein for his hard work and service to the district and the community.

“He has been an incredible mentor for me,” Facchiano said.

She noted the goal of the board and district personnel is for students to be successful.

“We’re all here for the students,” Facchiano said. “We hope staff are proud to be part of the Parkland community and hope they are passionate about their role in the district.”

She has resided in Parkland for 32 years and has three children who attended district schools.

Facchiano commented on the year ahead.

“I look forward to continuing to serve the Parkland School District with my fellow board members, staff, administration and, most importantly, the students,” Facchiano said. “I am very excited to work with Marisa over the next year.”

Nominated by Roth for the vice presidency, Ziegler received the votes of Cohen, Facchiano, Hein, Rohatgi, Roth, Wilcox and herself.

David Hein, who was nominated by Foose, garnered the votes of Coleman and Fosse.

Ziegler has three years of service on the board where she has been chairwoman of the Academics, Arts and Athletics Committee, board representative for the Community Advisory Council, and chairwoman of the policy committee at Lehigh Career and Technical Institute.

The mother of twin fourth graders, Ziegler is in her 16th year of teaching, presently as a kindergarten teacher in the East Penn School District.
