A new ALDI grocery store opened Nov. 17 in the Dorneyville Shopping Center, 3235 Hamilton Blvd., South Whitehall.
With this expansion, ALDI can count nine grocery stores in the Lehigh Valley.
The company was founded in Essen, Germany, in 1946 by brothers Karl and Theo Albrecht.
The privately held company operates more than 10,000 stores in 20 countries.
In keeping with its philosophy as a discount grocer, the new Dorneyville ALDI, a no-frills store with house brand products, asks customers to bring along a quarter to access shopping carts.
The quarter is returned when the cart is returned to the indoor cart corral.
