Roughies Report: CHS students make honors band festival

Congratulations to the 10 instrumental students who have successfully made the Lehigh County Honors Band Festival! The following Catasauqua High School students will be working with about 90 other students from nine other Lehigh County high schools to put together a concert in the middle of February 2023: Anessa Rodriguez, Maliah Price, Joseph Fischl, Lauren Ruda, Emma Dungan, Sirylli Jauregui, Jordan Soltis, Aidan Heil, Amberlynn Faust and Luis Silva.

Every month, teachers at Lehigh Career & Technical Institute recognize students for outstanding effort, improvement, achievement or leadership in their career and technical education programs and academic center classes. Congratulations to the following CHS students who were selected by their teachers for the months of September and October 2022: Kaila Lemen (academic center), Evan Bargher (electronics technology/nanofabrication) and Angel De Los Santos (heating/air conditioning and refrigeration).

LCTI’s emerging health professionals program is currently accepting applications for the 2023-24 school year.

This program is a perfect fit for rising high school seniors who plan to pursue careers in health care. Prospective students must be in 11th grade.

Made possible by the partnership of LCTI, Lehigh Valley Health Network, Lehigh Carbon Community College and Penn State Lehigh Valley, this intensive, dual-enrollment program is designed to give students a head start on college and expose them to a variety of medical professions through job shadows, hands-on training and clinical study at facilities across the region.

LCTI’s animal sciences program is currently accepting applications for the 2023-24 school year. Made possible by the partnership of LCTI, Lehigh Valley Zoo, Macungie Animal Hospital and Lehigh Carbon Community College, this intensive, dual-enrollment program is designed to give students a head start on college and expose them to a variety of professions in animal sciences and veterinary medicine through job shadows, hands-on training and clinical study at facilities across the region.

Prospective students must be in 11th grade.

Catasauqua Area School District students will have an early dismissal Dec. 22.

CASD will be closed Dec. 23 to Jan. 2, 2023, for the winter holiday break. Schools will open and classes will resume Jan. 3, 2023.
